Three members of the Ayrshire Flyers made their way to Amsterdam to compete in the Junior Dutch Open Championship at the Jaap Eden Icerink on the 19th/20th March. Shannon Scott, Jennifer Miller and Craig Miller were among the 126 competitors from 5 countries who competed in classes from Peewees through to Junior B. Britain was well represented with teams from Nottingham, Aldwych and Birmingham. Ayrshire Flyers were pleased with their 18th place out of the 20 teams skating as having only three team members and no relay they were a small team compared to the others present.
Frazer Logan is the fourth flyer and Stewart doned the role of coach for the weekend. Thanks Stewart for helping the skaters keep their focus and encouraging them on.
Shannon got pb's in both 333 and 500m distances, Jennifer got a new pb in 333m and Craig was skating well but unfortunately had a fall in the 1000m, when he was sitting in third place, and then had a collision with a bigger skater.
Everyone enjoyed the spirit of the competition, there were some very good races, and the weekend was one of fun where everyone was friendly and new friendships were formed. Fraser especially with his sticky octopus made friends of all nationalities.
We hope very much to return next year with a bigger club representation.
